Dr. Richard Akin is a second-generation oral and maxillofacial surgeon. Dr. Akin developed a specific, minimally invasive surgical technique for flapless immediate posterior implant placement that uses surgeon fabricated immediate custom healing abutments, known as the Anatomic Harmony Abutment. He recently published his technique in the Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Dr. Akin earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery and Doctor of Medicine from Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center in New Orleans. He also holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Providence College in Rhode Island.
Dr. Akin is a clinical associate professor in the LSU Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery in New Orleans. Dr. Akin lectures annually for the American Association of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons and serves as a faculty lecturer at Pankey Institute, where he is an alumnus. He lives and practices in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
